Poor support for retina iMacs
I wanted to use this for photo editing and retouching, but it’s just not working for my uses.
The big problem is that it has a scheme that scales all your images to an older, arbitrary factor if you use a retina iMac (not sure if that occurs on other retina Macs).
If you choose 100%, or “pixel size,” or “actual” none show your image at pixel for pixel, or 1:1. By contrast, if I take the same image and view it in Photos at 100%, one pixel in the image is one pixel on the screen. Same for Lightroom. Same for Aperture. Same for Mylio. Same for Photoshop. I could go on, but you see the point. The image is doubled in Affinity Photos, as if I was using an old 2.5k iMac. I realize some designers, especially those working on small icons, web graphics, etc prefer to work scaled since the objects are small on 4k or 5k monitors, but I just couldn’t get it to work properly without zooming/scaling, and there isn’t even a 50% in the view menu. I complained on the forum, and was told that this was deliberately how AP was designed.
Since I paid good cash for a retina display, and need to see stuff 1:1, this application is a fail for me, at least until they get it to work like the other applications I’ve listed.
