Affinity Photo App Reviews

Very Impressive

Although there is a learning curve (as always) Affinity Photo is definitely an inexpensive alternative photo application. It is well laid out and once the user gets used to a little different nomenclature and menuing system the process becomes a delight to use.

A fantastic alternative to Photoshop; coudn’t be happier

Sick of spending hundreds of dollars a year on photo editing software that mostly does other stuff now? Save your money—Affinity Photo is the best option. Spend a week working the learning curve a little bit at a time and be rewarded with a powerful, adaptable and robust photo editing application. Worth twice as much money as they’re asking for. Affinity is doing a great job of keeping everything up to date and pushing updates as they improve on their work; worth every penny.

Very well done

Affinity Photo is well on the way to being a total replacement for Photoshop. Buy once, at a reasonable price!

Excellent!

I needed an affordable alternative to Photoshop. I work with a wide range of digital and traditional imaging tools and occasionally need to edit digital images professionally, but not often enough to justify an on-going Creative Cloud license. I really wanted an app I could just own so I could keep my skills up between paying jobs. I was so thrilled with Affinity’s other app, Affinity Designer, that I was happy to give Affinity Photo a try. After a few weeks I am quite satisfied with my choice.

Amazing

I just cancelled my Photoshop annual subscription even though they tried to give me an extra 3 months for free. I have had it for one year and the amount I use it, it’s not worth the money. I took a look around and from the comments on Affinity, I decided to try it out. (I couldn’t find a trial version as it would have been nice to try first) Magnificent! It is way easier to use than Photshop and I am not and extended user. I just need to fix a few shots and play a bit and this program does it all and more and a lot easier than Photoshop. I’m sure as they keep working on this, the future updates can do nothing but make it even better. Highly recommended.

Update

How about an Extension for Apple Photos?

Bye Bye Photoshop

Wow! Took a chance on this program and bingo its a winner. So easy compared to PS. Their tutorials are basic and to the point. I am doing things easily in Affinity that I always found super complex in PS. Some of the features in this like the bandaid… are brilliant. It took a couple of tutorials to figure out how they layer stuff but I love the non destructive nature of their layering. I love this program so much I bought their Designer. No more expensive Adobe monthly membership. These two programs are considerablly less than two months subscription to Adobe. I also love the way the program saves versions and formats…The whole experience is brilliant!!

Not on par with Photoshop, but good for casual editing.

I have been using Photoshop for graphic design for years and was happy to see a possible rival. I’ve given Affinity Photo a chance as a replacement, but I constantly finding myself looking for basic tools or features and Googling it usually results in “that would make a great addition to Affinity Photo.” Also some of the key bindings are really really weird. Like who wants to press Shift + F5 to fill? I get that they don’t want to simply copy Photoshop… but like why not? Is there a legal conflict when specifying key bindings? Photoshops are intuitive, these ones are obscure and a strain on your hands. I hope they keep developing their product, I think Adobe needs the competition (especially in performance optimization).

Great platform!

I’m reall not comfortable with using Adobe’s CC option; you’re paying into a program, esentially renting it, for life and if you ever find that it gets too expensive, or just can’t justify the costs, then all that money you’ve paid is basically burnt, as you get locked out of the programs and can’t use them anymore. Affinity Photo is great! It costs less than a years subscription to CC and you have something you own. Only downfall is that it doesn’t have nearly the same amount of plug-ins and extras as Photoshop does, yet. Look forward to seeing what they bring in the future!

Highly recommend.

Just discovered Affinity Photo and purchased after investigating. A very quick review confirms all the good things I’ve heard. Tutorials are great and, while I’m no expert, appears to rival Adobe Lightroom. Excellent product. Highly recommend.

Its good, but it still has critical bugs.

It crashes almost every time I try to export to PNG (even with a very simple image) or after some minutes of use. I hope they fix these defects soon, because its impossible to use with these crashes.

Go to App.

Easy to use - all in one app. Thanks for a great product.

I love it more with each update

I’m a professionnal who uses image editing software day in and day out. I have more than 10 years of experience on Photoshop. I decided to stop my subscription to CC when this software came out. It’s nice to finally have good competition. I don’t regret it one bit. With the 1.4 upgrade, LOTS of stuff was added, check it out of the page. These guys have made a drool-worthy world contender image editing app on their first try on Mac. It deserves the App of the year prize that Apple gave it.

Export photo flawedf

Bought this because the wonderful Aperture is no more. My initial imporession weer good and the reviews are all good. Affintiy is certainly very detailed, but it may be bit too tekky for a novice. And its obviously not been tested by people with serious and fast workflow tasks. Unfortunately, my first serious test of Affinity fell over immediately. When you want to export a processed image in a different size (usually smaller for emailing or for web posting) Affinty forces you to do the math on the numbers of vertical and horizontl pixels yourself. If you get it wrong (guessing it for speed!), the whole image gets exported distorted. Aperture on the other hand is idiot proof: if you select a percentage reduction it defaults to automatically adjust the horizontal and vertical dimensions linked in proportion. There is no percenateg option in the panel. This problem also applies to the ‘resize docment’ panel as well as ‘export’. As present this software is dreadfully slowing down my work flow, so I cannot give it ahigher rating.

Absolutely love it

Freakin amazing

This is a must have app.

Just keeps getting better. Unlike other photo apps, Serfi Labs continues to provide video tutorials, free, as their software adds more features. Wow, who does that these days. I have also used their many extensions in Apples Photo app. Great addition. Great app.

Loving it!!!!

Its nice ot have a product that is so amazing and reasonably priced. A couple steps above the rest. Thank you!!

Awesome app awesome support!

Can’t stress how great this app is as well as the support given by the Affinity people! If you’ve been wanting to move away from Adobe Photoshop, this is the app to buy! So many powerful tools, and an interface that shows genuine skill on the part of the interface designers! Moving from Photoshop I find there is almost nothing that I used to do in Photoshop that I can’t do in Photo, and there are so many things I wouldn’t have thought to try in Photoshop that Affinity Photo allows for!

Loving this

I’ve recently started into photography and used just the photos app on Mac to edit pictures. Not drastic changes just staighten, adjust exposure and simple things like that. I didn’t want to get into photoshop, all the hassle of what I head from a friend who is a graphic designer. Looking at Affinity before buying seemed like a good starting point with going deeper into editing. So glad I did!! Tutorials are great and I’m navigating good on my own. Im starting to get the hang of it and photo editing doesnt seem so scary anymore

Happy

I’m not an expert in photoshop but I’m pretty happy so far. Just did a two part scan, one part upside down and had no trouble finding the menu item and importing the files. Boom, it’s done. Photoshop is a great program, I’ve used it for years, but at my level, I can’t see spending the kind of money Adobe wants for it for my home use.
